Post subject:  Bored

I have written a few posts in the last few day/months on just about everything to do with Bellett's even frustrated enough to sell the dame things.

I am sitting here patiently waiting for my new house to be finished and can't stop wanting to work on my cars which I have done successfully (special thanks to OZ for all his help) so excuse all the questions just not much else to do but dream about the GT project. so don't think there is a crazy guy asking some challenging questions as I know most of the Bellett community are into restoring their cars with the odd modified one, but I can't help myself when it comes to modify cars its all I've done.

Thanks for listening and if you have any comments on my questions just say so no offence here, just trying to look outside the box.

Thanks
Jeff

Hi Jeff
The way I see it is there are four types of people in the world
1/ die hard purists
2/ improved production
3/ modified production
4/ everything is on the table creationists

None is more mportant than the others, we all make the world go round

I like to think I am number 2

Cheers
J

Yeah, theres nothing wrong with exploring possibilities. If George didnt do that, then V6 Wasp wouldnt have been created. He took a rare styleside Wasp, and basically installed Commodore running gear. Matching Buick 3.8, auto, cutdown diff with rear discs, front discs, even the collapsable steering column. All commonly available bits.
Some might say thats not you do with a rare car, but it was in a poor condition. The roof was so rusty that he cut it off, and came down here and removed a sedan roof to replace it. The advantage was it is longer, so he could extend the cab and chassis to give decent leg room. I remember when Gary first saw it, he said it was what Isuzu should build as a retro version - it was a great result. Really, it is a sports car, not a workaday ute.
All good.
Cheers, Matt.

the way I see it if it puts another bellett on the road it cant be a bad thing. I like restored cars, mildly modded cars and cars that make you double take!

Hmmm, well I'm a number 1 when it comes to 'Nanna' cars. If they're still ok, then leave them alone I reckon.
But if its getting daggy, it can become a great ratt, or get restored. Original colour and all? If its getting painted, then why not colour it your way? So then I'm #2.
Rusty and unroadworthy? Then it needs a rebuild. Thats major, so why not power it up, or change the handling, or luxe up the interior? That would be #3.
Building up a Street Machine from a stripped out hull? Thats way better than becoming a Great Wall mudguard! Number 4!

See, its all good. A car is saved and enjoyed, and an owner is happy. Celebrate!
Cheers, Matt.

Ask all you like.
You'd be amazed what some of us have done in decades past..... So doesn't come as a surprise at all.

Me... I can appreciate a complete stockers, but can't drive one. They have vices that simply need fixing.
Back in the day, I'd modify the hell out of them. Now, mod it to make it nicer, but hide it inside a stock-ish or period look but still have outrite hot rods too.
GT: few mods, all period. Some visible, most not. Have a few more I want to do, but nothing that takes away the GTness.
Wasp: modified. A lot..... Was the first one over 20 years ago and is I did. Still has all the original stuff on the outside tho and unmistakable as a Wasp. Wouldn't change much if I did it today too.
Bathurst: 99% standard and is as I got it. Will stay that way simply due to history.
Deluxe: started as a nice stocker, but ain't perfect. Has a few little mods but hidden. Even standard wheels and hubcaps. Is lowered but not a crazy amount and all can be easily put back as God intended.
Racer: yeah well.... Nothing standard. Even the body.....
To be Gasser: is so badly rusted that major surgery is all that will save it, so it's current under the knife and will be like nothing the Bellett (more so, Wasp) world has seen.

The best way to do this modified car is just like my EJ and you can see from the pictures, what I want to do with the GT is the same stock externally because that's it's character but underneath it will be a monster.

Really? Perhaps I'm strange.......or old.....or imperceptive.....
Drove Doris 5700ks to the 2009 Nats, and 1600ks to the Tassie Nats last year, and a few 600k return laps to Sydney and didnt notice any. And she's an auto! I suppose I need to leave a gap to the car ahead, cause modern brakes are better, and back off a bit on some bends, but its all pretty easy. Not as fast as moderns, but for me, that is part of the appeal.

Soon get to drive Aunty Mary 1200-ish ks to Toowoomba. Her steering is nowhere near as direct, body roll much more evident and there is some wind noise, but the cushy ride, the comparative quietness, the way better heater, the acres of space! Just eats the kilometers!
Oh, wait, Rhys will want to drive, he is still on his Learners.....so I miss out. :|
I reckon if he does the whole trip, it will make him a better driver, more patient, more flexible. Great part is the 90k limit. Florians are quiet and relaxed at 90ks, and I get to look around.
;) Matt.

I wondered when we might get some EJ pics Jeff, looks pretty nice. Good that they are so readily available, and there are plenty of spares about. Getting some GT bits might be a bit more difficult, but they do come up. You just have to jump on them.
Thanks for showing,
cheers, Matt.

Try driving one around Melbourne in peak hour Matt..... That's when u need them to stop and turn.

Post subject:  Re: Bored

Yeah, peak hour in any city is pretty rubbish. Except Canberra of course, thats a doddle. (Shortly ago, they dug up a main road, and it was on the news night after night, cause it was taking 20 minutes to do a 5 min trip! The horror!...)
I have the great luxury of not going into traffic like that. Sure, our internet is restricted and slow, and we have to drive 20ks for a bottle of milk, but to never have to wait in gridlock? So worth it!
But I did it when I was 20.

Cheers, Matt.
