Did the VW K70 ever make it to Australia?
I'm hard up for a crank, rods and the gearbox out of one.

Re: VW K70
Nein du hast nicht, Oz ! Nice work. But an original oval rear window jobie went past my place yesterday. Metalic grey/brow, lowered with gangster mags and low profile tyres. Motor sounded worked as it grumbled up the road, running in at lower speeds,

I didn't think so, but it was worth a shot.
I've never heard a beetle motor that I liked the sound of (personally).

Got a fantastic design article and full blueprints from an old 'Style Auto' (Italian) book, if you want a copy drop me a line...I'll scan it and send you a disc.

Hey, no probs.hudson wrote:Duane, thanks for the offer.. but I really just need some parts
I guess there's no similarity between the K70 engine and early Passats? Not that there's many early Passats about these days. Oddball thing, I wouldn't be surprised if the engine was a one off, I believe VW and NSU were developing the cars separately in parallel prior to the Audi takeover...but I could be wrong.

Re: VW K70
The VW k70 really is a NSU.
The engine is essentially a water cooled version of their air cooled 4 cyl. The cranks are interchangable between the two motors, the k70 one having a longer stroke however (which is why I want it).
The K70 gearbox is a transaxle with a completely unique layout. The differential is underneath the crank. I've got a hotrod plan for this particular unit
