Just a quick post for now guys as I am at work but here she is!

Couple pics just landed in the warehouse at work. Its worst part is the strip below the doors will need a complete reweld along the whole length. Bit of surface rust. The interior is insanely clean for its year and for what I paid for it! Will get better pictures of that later on and a bit more words as to whats happening to it etc but heres some for now.

Fang machine! Dude that car is awesome. We have no more than a handful of post 1970 cars here in Australia with the short bonnet and the vents....

That is a really nice looking car well done on the purchase. Look forward hearing your plans for it.

Good purchase! Looks pretty original with good lenses etc. You've even got the correct indicators on the front quarters!

Deluxe badge on the boot is in the wrong place so keep an eye out for hidden damage there too.

I really like the wheel too, era :D

Keep us posted on changes and the problems you encounter!

Cheers,
R

That might be the right place on a 1970 Rossco.... (or not - dunno)

Ah ha, good point. Are the black rims on the tail lights normal for a 1970 model?

Should the black be chrome? I will most likely be getting things re-chromed

Look at my Polynesian Sedan. It's around the place on the forum. It has chromed light surrounds and the two sets of spares I have are both chromed with a black rim in the groove around the lights (although this black has faded a bit :))

Went and washed it today, as you can see from pics, minimal rust in door jams, around the boot lid etc which i was stoked with, and also IT RAN! Cranked up some oil pressure and it fired into life pretty spluttery which you can see in the last pic, so will get plugs, leads, new oil/filter, coil etc hopefully it runs a bit nicer. I drove it a small distance but I believe the drums are seized, and I have no experience whatsoever with drums so any suggestions/hints what to do there would be good.

Anyway, another bombardment of pics. Hopefully get hackin into those sills this week and see how bad they are :)

Been doing some more driving in the old girl. Also put wheels on so wheel/tyre gurus here can tell me what tyres I need. Rims are 14 x 6 and 14 x 6.5 Also note where my foot when through the sill lol. And wtf is up with the rear camber. Did you other bellett guys have it that bad?

Time to work on the suspension and get that thing lowered :)

Nice wheels, looks good :D

Any idea on the + camber issue? I counted the coils in the rear and appears to be at least seven. Shouldnt this be more like 5-6? Thinking this may be causing the wheels to sit out.

Ignoring the problem with the suspension not compressing, if it did, wouldn't the rear fender lip be resting on the rear tire tread? Should you be looking at deeper offset wheels? Those appear to stick out far enough to cause clearance/overlap problems.

I think with the right tyres and lowering they should tuck. Tyres on there are balloon spec snow tyres that came on the wheels from japan lol.

Post subject:  Re: Alistairs 1970 Bellett 1500

Was this pic taken straight after the car had been jacked down? If so, you've probably discovered by now that the thing will normally settle and the camber will go back to what appears to be normal once it's been rolled along the ground a metre or two.

JT is probably right though about the offset; they may not fit up under there, but my rims on my Rat Bellett appear to just fit under there; when it's jacked up they appear like they will NOT fit under, but of course because of the arc of the rear suspension swing arm, they tuck under nicely with about 3mm to spare and don't rub at all!

So give it a gentle nudge to see if it fits; if you find it resting on the rear wheelarch, well... time for some less snow-spec tyres!

If this pic was taken after it was jacked down AND driven, then your suspension is weird and different and needs to be corrected and dumped about 4" !!!

I second dave's view. The 1969 Sedan I have looks munted after it has been put on the ground and you'd swear that the mags won't fit under the guards.... but once it has rolled forward it all swings in nicely :)

I've got 195/60's on the back and they just fit in there.

Cheers,
Ross.

Third in on my signature but I'm saving the introduction in the 'my bellett' section until I get some phat stockies for it...

It should be about here.
