Hi,

I had been looking for a Bellett for my Dad as a project as he had a couple of them back in the day! My Dad has not been well and wanted to surprise him with the Bellett to cheer him up.

I was fortunate to get a call from Chris (oz_toffa) about one he had for sale and after a few months I am now the new owner. I would like to thank Chris for the effort he went to with the sale.

Here are a few pics, I am planning on trying to get her ready for the nationals with my Dad and my Daughter so let the work begin.

I have no plans on colour as yet we will get her ready for the road with a tidy up while we organise the paint, interior and wheels.

Hi,

I am chasing some parts for the Bellett so if anyone has these parts or know where I can go to search for them it would be greatly appreciated.

Rear taillight lenses
Extractors/headers to replace the exhaust system.

This is just the start so if you help please let me know.

Hi fellow Bellett members,

I am planning on getting the Bellett ready for the All Jap Day in March and need a bit of help. I spoke to OZ Toffer (Chris) and he is a great help.
I am chasing a few parts.
The Bonnet emblem to start with and I'm sure there will be more.

Also does anyone have a set of the Performance Superlite mags for sale to suit a Bellett and if not does anybody have any suggestion on what mags I could fit. The BELLETT currently has the set of Hotwires but looking to upgrade to something a bit more modern but I will take all advice on board.

Also has anyone had any issue with their fuel tank as the car currently won't start as it is not sucking the fuel out of the tank, I have blown out the fuel line back to tank and its clear. if I connect a can at the flex line at the fuel pump it starts fine so not sure what the problem could be, any help would be great.

I know I will have more questions as I get into this so to all the member any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

hi jeff was it just passenger side rear blinker I have a spare if you need have an old bonnet emblem its not real good plastic chrome coming off ..if you want either or both let me know cheers davo

Hi Jeff,
Good to see another Bellett being resurrected.
Sorry I can't help with the parts you need, but the wheels you are asking about are still available to order as new items. Performance wheels are no longer made in S.A. , but are being manufactured overseas, although you may need to use a larger diameter wheel and tyre. I know they are still doing 15 x 6 inch, but I am not sure about the 14 or 13 inch options. If you do run 15" wheels, then a 195/50r15 tyre is what I have used in the past. If you need help finding a local supplier you can call me at work on 02 4393 2833 ( Bob Jane T-Marts Lakehaven ), and I can call the importer directly.
With regards to the fuel problem, have you drained the tank and blown out the fittings mounted to the tank ? When I first picked up my GT all the fuel lines, including the tank fittings were completely blocked.

I have a brand spanking set of Charcoal Supalites - 14x6 with brand new Pirelli tyres 186x60x14

As per picture I took them off to fit some Magnum Dominators

Problem would be postage - bit pricey

Hi Jeff,
If you are running originat filter, check the bowl seal. It might not leak fuel, but let air in. The pump will just suck air. Test by bypassing the filter with a piece if hose.The seal should be a square section.

Jeff.
Another way is to pressurize the fuel tank with air. Get a dusting nozzle wraped in rag into the filler neck. Don't
forget to clamp off the breather pipe. There's a bleader screw on the filter main body. Release it and wait untill fuel
comes out. Then shut it off and stop putting air in tank. You will need 2 people to do this. Unless you have "GO,GO,
Gadget Arms."

Asroc66 I am interested in your wheels as I am planning on the exact scheme as your car for Dads as that is what he likes so if you could PM me the price that would be great and I will let Dad know.

Ok, I had a play last night and cannot for the life of me get the fuel from the tank to the front of the car all the fuel lines are clear. there is even over half a tanks of fuel un the car. I have had a go at all the suggestions given. so I think I have to take the fuel tank out and see if there is no a blockage in the tank. I am scratching my head at the minute.

What I have done:
new fuel filter (correct orientation)
New fuel pump fitted
Blown out the fuel lines front to back.
Got fuel coming out of the tank when disconnect the hose.

Is there any chance that the pump arm in the engine is not locating correctly?

It is completely stupid it is a simple system it shouldn't be this hard.

On another note on the door trims there is a chrome strip that runs in an arc across the trim has anyone repaired the chrome or removed them to recover or repaint. any suggestions would be appreciated.

I wonder if there is a hole or leak in the plastic? pipe out of the tank, where it joins the fuel line to go to front of car?

Jeff, can you cover over the carbi top with the air filter removed and draw fuel down through into the carbi?
or remove the plastic or rubber line after the fuel filter and draw fuel with a manual pump.
or connect an electric pump to the same hoses of the mechanical pump and the fuel filter and see if it draws fuel thru.

it does sound like an air leak.
only had to remove the fuel tank for a rusted one in all the years. but i have drained a few and washed out the crud.

also you could attach the rubber hose coming out of the fuel tank with a longer one to a bucket or 2 litre plastic container to isolate the tank issue without removing it.

banjo fitting have to be tight but dont overtighten, they strip easily.

and pump lever runs of the cam, so not likely to be out of place.

Did you say the pump draws fuel from a can placed on the inlet line? That would suggest the pump is being actuated. Also that the needle and seat is allowing the fuel into the carbie.
You are right, it should work!
This reminds me of a strange thing that shouldnt happen once, let alone twice. Gary Carters car once had the same problem, but would work intermittently. Eventually he took the filler tube off the top of the tank and shone a torch in there. With a bit of wire, he fished out a shower cap someone had put in through his non locking cap!
Not something you would expect! He replaced the fuel cap!

Something you can do, fill the fuel bowl of the carbie through either bowl vent. I use a small flaslube bottle as the nozzle is a neat fit. Start the motor and the higher speed actuating of the pump may get the fuel through.

If it was the origional pump it could have a torn membrane in the mechanical pump or faulty valves, but as you have fitted a new one then 'next'
You say you have cleared the fuel lines including the tank outlet?
I agree above, by-pass the filter and machanical pump, Fit an aftwer market electric pump and see what happens / where it leaks?
re fuel pump, they are to be fitted with a spacer approx 6mm, if you did not fit this between the block and the pump then the cam driven pump will not function properly

It is also possible that the lobe on the cam that contacts the pump arm could be worn. Sounds odd, but that did happen to my original GT back in the late 80's. We had to run an electric pump, which was mounted in the boot, but did have the odd problem with too much fuel pressure.

Low pressure electric pumps used to be available - probably still are (Facet ) .
If using an electric pump mount it near the tank (not in the engine bay ) and use rubber mounts - small round rubber blocks with a male thread vulcanised onto 2 opposite sides (this helps prevent the pump noise being transfered throughout the car and also solid mounting can cause the pump to malfunction as they work on a vibration principal )
