Stirring up a WASPs nest!

Post by Farmer »

There are a number of Wasps that occur in Australia. Some are solitary in their habits, while others pair up and remain so for life. Still others congregate in small family groups........

It would seem theres always room for one more to join the nest, especially when its offered for a little over scrap value.
My mate Craig found this one while browsing all classifieds, and rang me straight away. Handy too, that it was just up the road at Eugowra. (160 km)
The seller is a nice bloke, who cant stand things being wasted if someone can use them, but had decided to thin some of his stash out. His very considerable stash. He said he'd had a Bellett too, and the motor was in the shed, so he'd give that in. He wasn't able to find it though. Its a big shed and theres a lot of stuff in there.
We did find some of the Bellett though......

and swing arms and driveshaft.....that drives! A gear set up dispenses seed and propells the contraption. A stationary motor takes the place of PTO and tractor to drag it.

Perhaps I should call him back and see what he wants for it, just because its unique......and Bellettified.
:) :D  Matt.

Seems Wasps are attracted to Wasps. So many mud nests, and the seller was busting them off as we chatted!

The engine number is different to original, so theres been a later 3 bearing motor fitted. Still has DC generator and reg fitted. And late aircleaner - is there an element to keep the Mudwasps out of the carbie?

but its done the job!

Hmmm, grab fan, motor turns. This is good.
Remove KLG plugs, squirt in WD40, take crank handle & wind over & over. Now test compression with thumb - all 4 good! Try starter - just a groan :( Put in better plugs, try starter again - works! :)
Hmm, no spark, but power to coil ok. Put in new points. Now sparky! :D
OK, Aerostart. Spray, turn key, pop-pop-pop......
Fill carbie bowl with fuel, turn key........

HE LIVES!!! Started, ran, idled, no knocks, no rattles, no smoke........HOW GOOD IS THIS????
COMEOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!

I suppose its only been standing outside for 20 odd years, of course its probably gunna go!
You think I'm excited??
:D Matt.

Nice one Farmer......

Nothing better than hearing a motor run after so long in hibernation.

Congrats!

Thanks Neil, these little motors never cease to amaze me. In fact, I've never brought a Bellett/Wasp/Flo home that hasn't ran, if the motor was still fitted to the car. And some standing lenghts have been 12 years, 12 years, 20+ years, and 30 years! All ran after a couple of hours of mucking around.

I forgot a detail -

Cheers, Matt.

So I'm looking back over old threads, and this one is not up to date. I must fix this.
I know this more recent addition to the shot is a little....spartan, but its a Wasp, and restorable if a bloke is keen. I have found most of the bits, just short window frames and a seat.
Anyway, I like the pic. But theres still no styleside!!

So you have FOUR Wasps?

The LWB Wasp you have; is that a different one to Gary's?
