This brochure is a really interesting one, even if the text is all in Japanese. The paper it's printed on is really heavy; almost like cardboard compared to a regular brochure, but that's not the best bit...

The best bit are the Beatles-esque magical-mystery-tour freakish drawings throughout! Oh, and the great Bellett pics!

As you can see above, the cover is just awesome! Fantastic shots of the stylish Bellett in the mountains, near the ocean, in the beautiful red sunset!

Pages two and three have a picture that spans both pages; I've provided them as large-format seperate scans, plus a smaller one with both pages joined so the entire picture can be enjoyed.

Page two provides us with the first magical mystery picture, with a campfire and spit, some logs for seats and an acoustic guitar! I guess this represents the people camping in their shiny new Bellett Deluxes!

On page three, we get some diagrams of the formats available in the Deluxe including manual gearbox/disc brakes in both 2-door and 4-door sedans, plus manual gearbox/drum brakes/reclining seats, auto gearbox/drum brakes/reclining seats and manual gearbox/disc brakes/reclining seats! The stuff we take for granted now was SO Deluxe back then!

In the bottom right hand corner is a happy Westernized Japanese family; what amazes me is that the kids would be about 45-50 years old now! Hope the paedophiles don't catch wind of the up-skirt action there...

Pages four and five also have a single picture spread across two pages.

On page four we have, uh, a magical mystery cartoon car with a rocking chair inside. Perhaps this represents all the comforts of home? Or perhaps Timothy Leary dropped in and gave all the Japanese people some of the brown acid. Either way...

I'm not sure if any Australian-market cars got to enjoy this crazy trim pattern. More acid, it would seem. The Deluxe also gets an oddments tray UNDER the glove box. I don't think ours got that either! Notice the packet of cigarettes in the glove box - very politically correct! The AM radio appears to be a factory item - the backing plate is actually the same size and shape as the blue and silver Bellett-embossed items from the lesser models.

Interesting that the blue column shift/bench seat interior is shown in a Deluxe spec when it appeared from the diagrams above that column-shift/bench seat does not appear to be an option!

Pages 6 and 7 are seperate, so I've not bothered to show you a joined example. Page 6 is quite technical with some great diagrams of the engine and the auto gearbox, plus there's a good picture on the top right hand side of a new-model 1967 (well, 1966-and-a-half technically, but lets not get into that) Bellett Deluxe leading two older model Belletts. Grille and headlight surround differences are obvious, but this shows the difference in the bumpers and over-riders as well. Not sure why the red car has a black grille, but with the extra lights it's possible it was a race or rally car, or just a general private citizen's car who appreciated good lighting?

Back to the auto box; the statistics seem to show that it has a 1.821:1 first gear and a 1:1 second gear.... and no third gear. Auto Bellett owners will know that the gate shows L and D only, however the box was a 3-speed Borg Warner item, similar to the item fitted to the 1960s Australian Ford Falcon. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong! If your're thinking that the weights of 1225kg for the 4-door and 1215kg for the 2-door seem frightfully heavy, then you're right. The final page specs table reveals these weights are with 5 passengers on board!

Of course, this page wouldn't be good and proper without a magical mystery drawing of a boot with flowers in it, driving along making flower-shaped exhaust fumes.

Page seven shows us the ease of which the Bellett Deluxe can be parked and, in the bottom left-hand corner, how much better it stops with disc brakes! Of course! Diagrams of the manual gearbox, rack and pinion steering, drums, discs and front and rear suspension abound.

Page eight and along comes the obligatory specs sheet. Confusion reigns surpreme here. Want the specs for a 3-speed manual Bellett? No such thing? WRONG! It's here! What's with the reverse gear ratio on the 2-speed auto specs? It's the same as first, yet all the other cars carry a 3.927:1 ratio... I'm just so confused!

Anyway, that was the magical mystery Isuzu Bellett 1500 Deluxe brochure! I love this one!

Wow I how to see this car physically not just on magazines and photographs! It's really rare to see these amazing machines still running.
