Used Parts from Japan (Yahoo or other....)

Post by prince_skyline »

Might be out of place here, but i thought i would throw this topic up specifically for used parts for sale in Japan - Yahoo Japan and the like.

Might sound weird coming from a Prince Skyline/Hakosuka nut, but i have my friends in Tokyo and Osaka send me different things all the time (not just Prince)....

I'm about 80% sure i'll be getting myself a Bellett one day too.......They are growing on me ( ) ........In all honesty - I am simply a classic Japanese car enthusiast who appreciates seeing them on the road!

Now please don't flame me....cause i don't know what is desirable or not in Bellett world, so i'll just throw up random things, and i'm sure others might throw up things as they find them as well.....

Oh, and if anyone needs a hand getting anything out of Japan let me know ;) ......

That's a nice offer, thank you. There are some who have tried to source things, so it would be good to have a contact.
Most GT specific things would be sought after, Carbs, Manifolds, Guages, heater & controls, grilles, hubcaps, etc. and 'perishable' stuff like lenses & rubbers.
Please keep showing us any thing, different people have different needs.
Cheers, Matt. :)

The one thing I have noticed about Yahoo Japan auctions is this:

You sit and watch a reasonably priced item run it's auction duration and expire multiple times without a bidder. Some times for six months straight. Then you contact a friend and spend time explaining that you want them to buy the item and you will send them money (which is quite a bit of work when they do not speak English). You get a bid placed on the item on your behalf, and suddenly there are a dozen bids with the item selling for three times suggested retail.

The item has sit without a sale for months on end, and as soon as one bid goes on it, buyers come out of the woodwork and are fighting tooth and nail to get it. If it weren't for the fact that the item then disappears, never to be seen again, I would suspect shill bidding. All I can guess is that there are a lot of people watching listings for items they want, and they won't spend any money until they think they might miss out on the thing they have been watching.

I'd be surprised if I have had a 25% success rate on buying on Yahoo Japan. To the point that I don't even want to spend the time writing to ask a friend to bid.

The Japanese do crack me up at times. They often bid on items at auction that are available with a 'buy now' price for marginally more than the opening bid price....You would think if you really wanted the item you would just click 'buy now' for the small amount extra.......We all know what it is like to miss out on something through ebay or the like......

Here is an example: Bellett GT centre console which has an opening bid of 2,800Y or a 'buy now' price of 2,980Y. Someone has placed a bid on it at 2,800Y - for a lazy 180Y (about $2.30AU) they could just buy it!!!!

Some tail lights.... If only Prince GT taillights were this price (unfortunately they are minimum of $400AU a pair or about $1,000 for NOS)

Buy now price = 2,480Y

The centre console is actually not hard to make. Apart from the gauges etc in it.

I made one years ago for one Bellett I had. I used steel sheet. Ally (aluminium sheet, say 1.6mm or maybe 2mm) should work too although I managed to get a mate to spot weld the steel for me. You could use ally and countersunk pop rivets to assemble it.

All you need is to borrow one to make templates off. Cut out sides including the front bin, in one piece. Bend it around something of suitable diameter. Use angle ally to creat edges for the front panel to fit onto. Pop rivet those to the main piece.

Then get it upholstered to suit.

Centre console and tail lights both sold for their buy now price within 24 hours of being listed...

Centre console sold for 2,980Y or about $37AU

GT-R headlight surrounds as in my first post didn't sell at auction (no bids) and have now been relisted at 6,000Y
GT Grill and headlight surrounds also did not sell and have been relisted at 8,500Y

Another grill to hit the Yahoo Japan auction site:

most of what has been posted is needed or wanted by someone on the forum.

just depends on the pain level or the deepness of the pocket

what would postage cost for a complete front grill?

cheers

That's the 'hard to answer' question. Until it is sized up and/or weighed it is hard to estimate.
I get stuff delivered from Japan every week, but if it is not urgent, i would certainly recommend sea-mail to lessen the pain to the back pocket...

Some things certainly surprise me with costs. If it is large items that need to be shipped in a container such as engines etc, it is surprisingly reasonable considering the cost and weight of items to be sent via Surface Mail or EMS.

Like all post, it is generally by weight (the cost) but size can play a part also....

A parcel i received two days ago weighed 7.6kg and cost 12,800Y via EMS. The same parcel would have been about 7,000Y via sea (wait of 6 - 8 weeks).

Hardly fair when i can ship a 200kg engine in a container for around $350 - $400.

I have access to shared container every three or so months for larger goods.

There are very few businesses around that offer the service of buying parts from Japan, and they do vary in price considerably for their service.

Unfortunately, Japan has one of the highest postage rates in the world.....
