Re: Red Sedan FOR SALE
might need a bit more details about the car cause as it stands, its reasonably tidy but may be pushing a wheelbarrow uphill and getting covered in smelly stuff to see 3K out of it...

Re: Red Sedan FOR SALE
then we must have cheap cars over here in SA!
if its not low mileage and no rust and had mechanicals been gone over, we bought one looking not much less shabby for $250.
and the white sedan that went to Qld from SA was going for $800 at the wreckers here and it became a 2K car?
no details and just one photo is all there is to judge it by, then its about 2K tops
Not that I am tight and never been accused of being Mr Scrooge

Re: Red Sedan FOR SALE
Interesting I personally thought you under value them also OZ not being rude but the blue flo in vic was good buying in my opinion. The $800 sa special you speak of I bought off Dave aka tina turner for $1600 as far as I am concerned it would be one of the better original sedans around I have spent around a grand cleaning it up but it is the most honest reliable darling.
Back to values gold coast cars blue and the white one sold for around $1000 neither you could drive home. The north nsw sedan was more than that. There have been more
I picked the bribie car up for $500 nanna speck but a little ruff round the sides a few close calls with the fence maybe
but it had issues overheating seized shocky brakes leaked most is fixed now but it is still not pretty. What is being pointed out here is the cars for a grand need $ spending on them before you can drive them. Most people buy them and they take them home to do them up and if you want to know how much it costs to do them up
walk into clark rubber and buy 25mm rubber bungs for the floor pan take at least $70 with you. I can see value in this car because you can buy it enjoy it and it goes do it up as you drive it.
$1000 base car that has not been driven will soon suck up $2000 this is why restorations start and never get completed or go into sheds and become a one day project.
The value is in $3000 tody cruising to the nats in two months as opposed to $1000 and waiting for things to be done and a mile long list of to do's I admit it's not perfect but it can be when you are ready.

I guess that Oz is trying to say that if he was out cruising on a beautiful sunny day and some idiot on their mobile phone was to run up the back of him or hit him from the side then he wishes to be paid scrap value from the insurance company for writing his car off as no panel shop in the world would fix it?
In comparison to other similar sized and aged classics I'd say its well worth it.

Greg . I agree . I have restored 3 cars and the 4th is a gt . I never keep a record of how Mutch I spend .i think if I did I probly would not keep doing it . My only savior is that I usually have the parts and the contacts to get things at the right $ . Gricey

Re: Red Sedan FOR SALE
The big problem is finding someone with a lazy $3000 in this climate. This is what makes the project cars attractive.
To think you can be out smelling fumes, have that seat spring digging into your hip, that famous chrome seat belt burn on your ass
and to top it off the am radio screamin in your ear trying to drown the drone and road noise this weekend
PRICELESS.

Re: Red Sedan FOR SALE
Exactly right Orph. That's why I bought the PR90 shell here in SA. I may take 5 years to finish it but will not notice the pain in the pocket too much. If I went and bought a 15k GT it would be instant divorce. My green teardrop twin cam sedan I bought over a year ago is exactly the same. It does need a fair bit more work than what others realise including complete stripping and respray but I was never going to even think about buying a fully restored twin cam like the violet crumble sedan. And yes I do realise that my green sedan is worth more than what I paid but think that the red sedan will struggle to get near 3k just going by the pictures.

Re: Red Sedan FOR SALE
Not to be drawn into the price debate, comparison just dont work as a nice 67 shovel nose Corona recently went for $1200 ($500-$2000 seems to be the range) to a 70 Datsun 1600 that people are asking up to $20,000 for.
To me in the current market, prices are set by the amount of people interested in the type of vehicle being sold and what people are able to part with at the time of the sale.
The Bonus is if your not in a hurry to sell the better off you will be in price and getting the car to a GOOD home!
The flip side is the person who has a car, set an unrealistic price (because they have compared it to something completely unrelated)
and that they would rather let it rust into the ground than sell it for anything less.
All you need is that one person wanting it and having the time to save for it!
Reckon we need to get more people into Bellett's and get RED into a GOOD home!

Re: Red Sedan FOR SALE
and i guess i was spoilt to get my blue deluxe for under 3K and drive it home from Melb to Adelaide.
and that is more rare than a 67 1/2 sedan.
but my 64K 2 owner auto did cost under 2K and the bottom end of the motor was stuffed!
so that adds at least $500 with some 2nd hand parts not to mention time working on it. and that is always something we dont really add into the cost.cause we are mostly home mechanics, we dont value our time very well. but the work we do can be easily as good as someone you are paying $75 and hour to fix your car. and boy do we put some hours into them!
look out Shannon's. think i need to re-value the sedans in my collection!

Re: Red Sedan FOR SALE
I'd pay 3k for it without hesitation (I don't have 3k but if I did) as I see the value in a car you can jump in and drive.
I paid more than 2k for Donkey (non driveable) which most people wouldn't have paid $200 for and he's full comp insured for 4k as is (once resprayed and retrimmed will have cover increased to 8k)
IMO, 3k for a driver....... CHEAP AS CHIPS!

your Wasp Ute was a pretty good buy.
more or less drove from day one, good compression on motor, just time spent cleaning up
and they are rare as, especially style side
sold my last very tired driver for under 1K as I wanted it to be finished and back on the road before I got the time to get to it.
and who has the time to keep 5 or 6 cars on the road? certainly not me.

Re: Red Sedan FOR SALE
Gee Rod, one phone call to me and you could double your money!
Screw buying a project that sits in your shed for 10 years...I can drive my GT every day.
The red car is $3k every day in the sun, but I highly doubt there's many people out there falling over themselves for it...half the country's jobless! Maybe hang out for another $2k Bathurst car?

lizzies had the photo's for the last few days putting them on discs and memory sticks ect I have not looked at them yet as I was downloading from the camera soon
Rod the clue with yours is 7 years
we have bought them cheap in the past before too.
I think the comment is right about jobs also people are watching what they spend money on and where. This may make it hard to sell. Who knows how long it will take if and when jobs and spare cash become available.

Re: Red Sedan FOR SALE
Not worth doing mine then as it sits will cost me $800 to have it transpoted from where it is to here and thats if I go through a friend of my cousins when he can fit it in on a discounted back load. Then I'd need some fancy new tyres like the one in the pic there goes another $500 and definately puts really fancy bias ply white walls out of the pic. From the pics I showed the upolsterer in the shed in the same complex as work that does all our work he gave me an approximate of minimum $3000 to redo the front and back seats and the roof lining, both absolutely rooted, I'll live with the vinyl floor and door trims (good set) The car then needs brakes and rubbers and a few hours of putting the head on and motor back in.
I'll live with the patinad paint its in at the moment.
But then with the baby on the way. It can wait for a rainy day.
