Bellett model updates & corresponding chassis numbers

Brett, do you have info on PR60 chassis numbers re posisble dates of manufacture etc ?

The PR60 i bought is claimed to be October 1972. VIN "PR60-4141xxx"

Other one is PR60-4137xxx but don't know date of this one. Any ideas ? I think maybe 1971 by the lower number?

How many Sport models were actuall made each year ?

I've just changed this to a 'sticky' topic (not you, Stickman) because it's an interesting one and I just spent a bloody hour looking for it so I could get my own chassis numbers for the Bay to Birdwood Classic form I was filling out. Hint hint peoples!!

Ok, so this question is almost 4 years old........... but I haven't looked at this thread for a while.
In my shed is a spare block with the number G161-304452, just 2 newer! Looks as though it was produced in late 1967, well before the first Florian sold in Dec '68. So it would be a GT motor I reckon, and it seems many GTs are close in number, so their cars would have been on the boat together.

I've very recently been given a stack of Bellett and Wasp documentation, inc some brand new Wasp workshop service posters (they're huge, and very awesome!), as well as a few Bellett service books.

Interesting fact that has come out of the Bellett books is that while the chassis' were built and sent down the line in consecutive number order (the actual service books are numbered and are also consecutive with the chassis number listed inside), the engine's were fitted at random..... I assume they were just put on a shelf and grabbed as needed.

The books I have been given are for chassis numbers 4106049 and 4106054.... 5 chassis apart. What then raised my eyebrows further was that a car I currently own is 4106050..... right in the middle, and the very next car after 049.
As I also have the books from 050, and they confirm that the engine in it today is original (which I knew it was anyway), so this sequence is as follows:
chassis 4106049, engine 405742.
chassis 4106050, engine 405722.
chassis 4106054, engine 405739.
so what we have here is car 049 with engine 742, but the very next car has an engine 20 numbers fewer, and a car 4 later again with an engine 17 numbers higher but still 3 fewer than where we started!

Hope this helps de mystify the theories, and confirm others.

OK, that makes good sense. Motors could be stockpiled so they didn't slow the production line, just like any other part.
Amazing how many close numbered GTs there are.

Similar to the Morris Minors a few of those have been compared on the forum close together number wise but engine numbers miles out.

I am doing some research on my PR90 and am trying to work out what year it is. I was told it is a 1967 model but from reading the information provided in the forum it could be 1966. Can somebody clarify this for me please.
Chassis number is PR90 4202592 and engine number is G160 302327

Late 1966 because all 55 cars came here in one batch. We didnt get any early 67 build PR90's.

I have a couple of more questions for you guys.
I am currently reading a wheels article about the Bellett GT and the magazine is dated December 1965. In the article they mention that the first batch to arrive in Australia were all silver grey so that does that mean we had a batch of PR90's in 65 and 66. Also there is a PR90 here in Adelaide undergoing restoration and its chassis number is approximately 1150 after mine so where would that sit in arrival date.

No GT's were sold here before April 1966.
The first "batch" were press / evaluation cars
Some say there was only 1 but I personally think it was at least 2. I know one of these still exists today. And the 2 I know of were both silver grey.
The cars sold to the public after April 66 were all available colours. I've personally seen silver grey, white and red examples here in original condition.

I notice that the GT Modern Motor used for their article in October 65 was the same car that Wheels used for their article in December 65 so this must have been a press car as you suggest.

And the PR90 with chassis number 1150 after mine would that be a late 66 car as well?
