tragic news from the event yesterday is that Mitsubish Evo 8 driver Adam Plant was killed in an accident and his co driver Patrick Chan is still fighting for life in hospital...
when these things happen, it puts a sadness to the human element to the motorsport we all luv and enjoy.
condolences to Adam's family and our prayers to Patrick for a full recovery.

Patrick Chan is reported in the Advertiser as having 'minor injuries'. In news footage last night he was shown walking unassisted to the back of an ambulance. Hopefully, this is a good sign. I know/knew Adam Plate (pronounced Plar-Ter) and spoke to him on Wednesday night after the night stage and he was pretty happy about how well he had done. He was a fearless driver and it is a great tragedy to hear of his death.

Great photos again Oz! I hear alot of public opposition to the Targa and other motor sport through my work in the hills. Sometimes its best to hide my enthusiasm to avaid conflict. They forget these events are run mainly by volunteers on the ground, and are extremely highly organised as to very little inconveniece the public. Besides, these people use "safety" as an excuse to hide there real distaste for motorsport for whatever reason.

It is the risk racers understand and take, in particular events like the Targa, when there are very few barriers and many obsticles off the side of roads. This is what makes it fun and attractive.

I've also found it is the opponents, when the roads are NOT closed off for one way fun, are the first to flaunt the road rules only to meet them half way across your side of the road around blind corners. This always gets me CRANKY!!
