Yep, keen to be there, but probably shouldn't be in Dobby.1968GT wrote:LOOKING GREAT Matt.
I hear we will see you at Shannon's on the weekend, not in Dobby though! LOL.

Hey Glenn.Glenn wrote:what weight is the Elf rated to carry ?
According to the brochure...... He is legal at 4.1 tonnes gross. The cab & chassis weighs 1330kg, so he can carry 2770kg including the tray. I reckon the tray will be well under 770kg, so a full 2 tonne! More than 2 Belletts!
I will get a weigh ticket once he is done to be sure.

Re: Elf and Safety
thats quite a bit for the motor size. Guess there won't be any high speed interstate dashes..... Perfect though to setup to carry a Bellett only.

Re: Elf and Safety
Exactly right mate! I measured the tray once, there is 100mm behind the back wheel of a sedan if I load it front first.
There is another thing. Dobby has had his motor and gearbox replaced at some stage with a 1500 2R Corona motor. Originally he had a G201 2000 motor, so yeah, even less power. But its all set up pretty well, so it will be ok for now.
Heres the good news though. Brother Gary bought his '64 first-car-in-Sydney sedan from Canberra and with it came a heap of spares, including used motors. One of them happened to be a G201. Amazing! So he gave it to me. I just have to find a 'box (and probably a column shift Bellett one will do) and I can put him back to original.

Tray is off for rust conversion (now done) and painting. The chassis will get the same treatment.

Re: Elf and Safety
Matt do you want to build a "hotrod " ?
I picked up a motor to put in a Wasp - it didn't fit without many modifications - all too hard .
If you are doing up a G201 motor , how about using this one ?
And then I remembered the truck motor has a lowered carby manifold to get it under the seat - maybe it won't fit . - Craig

Re: Elf and Safety
Wooo, twin carbs! They look like Chev Luv carbs, with the vacuum secondary. Where did you find this? In a Bellell? Yeah, hot rod!
Yeah, the motor I have does have the lowered manifold, but uses an oil bath air filter with steel induction tube. There is a rubber tube to the carb which has been modified to suit the 2R, thankfully just with gaffa tape. It has some problem, it turns about 350 degrees then stops, and tye same when I turn it backwards. Hopefully just a stuck valve, but it will get to that later, I just want to get him on the road.
Is your motor a runner?
Thanks, Matt.

Re: Elf and Safety
Tray frame now painted.
Yep, its white! Well, safest to see from behind. And it will match the roof.
And I thought, I still got a couple of weeks. So... The original grey is pretty ordinary, and the pale green over it is falling off, and the colour test patches don't help, so lets try the strip disc.
Boom!
I gotta go buy some primer.
All good fun.
Matt.

Re: Elf and Safety
Thanks mate, yeah its not too shabby. A few little dents and a couple of rusty spots, but should fix easily. The roof is a bit like the ocean though, I reckon its been hay carting and people walked on the roof! But the rubber hammers came out, and now its a bit closer to the shape it should be.
All good fun.
Tonight after dinner I went out and fixed the horn. The one on it didn't work, so I took it off and found out why. Its got 'Made in France' written on it! So binned that and put some Mitsubas on there. Sounds different to a Bellett or Florian, so all good.
Its just a little thing, but its one more step.
Cheers, Matt.

Re: Elf and Safety
Yeah little by little, I'm in the same boat with the Wasp.
Only have one month left to get it sorted, rego'd and ready for an epic roadtrip (not to mention I'm away house sitting until the end of the month too

Can't wait to see the finished product Matt.
Looking good & making great progress. It will look like a million dollars when you're done.
I still haven't put the polish on the bellett yet but I'll have it all prettied up for Mudgee
Not long now

Good onya Stickman. It will be great if you can get him there, but I know how the time evaporates. Allow extra travel time, Wasps are low geared remember!Stickman wrote:Yeah little by little, I'm in the same boat with the Wasp.

Thanks mate. I reckon its going to be a semi finished product for Mudgee though, but no matter, as long as we can get there.bambam72 wrote:Can't wait to see the finished product Matt.

Re: Elf and Safety
I have put it down on my Nats registration as the vehicle I'm bringing so the incentive is there to get it sorted but there are little speed bumps after speed bumps in the process.Farmer wrote: It will be great if you can get him there, but I know how the time evaporates. Matt.
Fuel tank leaks, brakes need overhaul, clutch master and a few leaking gaskets need replacing, that's my current list of issues
I'll just have to trailer the ute to where I am currently house sitting and work on it there.
There will be no time for a decent shake down run though so ALL fingers crossed for the journey south
Have allowed for 2 weeks travel time to get there...... via Albury..... and 3 days to get home again, but that could be extended to 4 or 5 days if necessary

To windy and showery to paint, so I've been sorting the boards. Now to get em back out and apply some coating.
