Sport" Bellett sedan PICTURES

Post by Glenn »

I started a new thread.... I will post some pictures here of what I got and progress too, hopefully.

To recap, I bought 2 x 1972 'Sports' Bellett Sedans on Yahoo auction site (Japan) on 17th June 2012, with the assistance of 'prince_skyline'. One car is a parts car although could be put back on the road.

After a long journey, getting import approvals and shipping etc, the cars arrived on 18th Sept, 2012.

Admin. might like to remove the other thread then.

OK, 1st picture is the second car, spares car or rebuilder? Other car ready for pickup on Monday
.
Actually, initial impression is that this car could be rebuilt. Not easy to see underneath at present but it looks fairly sound. Some rust (well a lot) in the rear pan.
Rust behind the rear wheel area 1/4 panel lower. Some perforation at corners of the windows. Most else is surface rust although pitted in some places.
The bottom of the shock towers appears to be rust free. The only thing missing is the drivers seat. Most else seems to be in boxes in the car.

All the guages are there, GT style wheel though is cracked. I was going to fit this to the other car. It seems to be plastic rim not wood? Engine there but no manifold. (possibly in the car though)

Unfortunately, the front edge of the bonnet and guards has suffered some damage in transit. I really hope no transit damage to the main car.

As you can see, the car is full of spares...... s/h mostly in this car but i am yet to pull everything out and see whats there, but several windscreens, possibly GT also as he obviously has wrecked some GT's in the past. 2 x GT consoles. Three+ sets of bumpers. Rear seats seem to be there and left front seat also. A couple of heaters, a full set of nice wheel trims but not off a Bellett, springs, 3 only GTR steel wheels, petrol caps, boot locks, early ignition switches etc

A jumble of bits..... if i took them out now, i probably couldn't get them back in !

5 doors picked up also, all GT. They appear usable. Still have door trims, some with plastic on them still. But have suffered a bit from weather.

here are the wheel trims, any idea what from ?

i reckon your job lot was a great buy, Glenn. So many spares and other bits you have got there.
makes me really mad that these guys cant transport a car without doing some damage!!!
shit, you pay enough money for the service, you would expect something a little better.
but its just a job and they dont give a rats ass if there is damage. even Dave had some on his GT-R.

its needs someone to start a class action in court against these guys for not delivering cars in the same condition as they left Japan.
make them sit up and take notice for a change.

great to see half of it finally off the docks!!!

yes, it's very dissapointing to see the damage.... it's like the whole front edge of the car went under something, that hard to get (impossible here) short bonnet is badly damaged and the 2 guards also on the top leading edge. Gueards easily fixed but bonnets are not so easy with the double panels in them

i just HOPE the other cars is ok....... xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

yes, i think i got a pretty good deal all things considered. A pretty rare model plus spares. Many of which i will have to dispose of though as i don't have space for all. Once sorted out I will put the bits for the spare with it so it's a "complete" car or as much as it can be.

Your long wait has paid off :D Those rims look so much like my 1971 globe rims on my car :o
Looks like you will have to catalog all those parts when you unpack them

Sweet Glenn...congrats! Can't wait to see the other car :)

You won't have any trouble offloading unwanted spares, might recoup a fair chunk of your costs in the process!

Looking forward to hearing about progress from now on.

Cheers,

I think George is now out of Bellett scene ?

Given 100% time on it, i could have it up and running too i think but, even though i would love to do it, the other car takes precedence here. It would be nice though to turn up at meetings in his and hers twin Sports though !!! But my wife probably is not keen on that idea (to say the least) so the car will probably have to be sold as a project with all the bits i can find to go with it.

OK, the 'good' car has now arrived and is at home. Can't get it in the garage until I get some helpers. Arrived in the dark at 8pm

1st impressions, not so good. ......... more transit damage ! Bootlid is pushed in and I can't open it. (there should be NOS goodies in there !) Bonnet has damage but relatively slight. 1800 Sports badge is missing from RH side but was there when I bought it. Pilfered or maybe it fell off?

Car is not too bad for its age. It's had a paint job in the past and might even have been Roman red ! Although I thought that was only on early models?

Some rust in left sill. A little behind both rear wheels and on one wheel arch (bubbles) Under the car appears good but until i can get it over the pit in my shed, won't know for sure. Can't see any rust bubbles in the inner lower shock tower area which is good.

Interior needs a good clean but has genuine Isuzu rubber mats and the carpet underneath is like new although needs a good vacuum out. Dust etc inside.
Roof lining is black and has a small tear over drivers door.

A couple of boxes of NOS, rubbers of all sorts, master cyclinder re-build parts (piston etc) new plug leads and more i have not looked at yet.
NOS grille too.

Battery appears to be new, but down, so I put it on the charger and see how it comes up tomorrow.

Engine..... don't know yet. Distributor has just been pushed into the hole, no bolts or leads. Its supposed to have ignition problems so will need to check this out further.

"PF60" Owners manual in glovebox.

Wheels are 14" so if I need to do brake upgrade, might help. (brakes are not working, except handbrake)

summing up. Not a bad car for one bought from a few pictures ! Even the tyres look ok.

Left Sill is probably the worst of the car.
